Odor in the House

by Peter McKay

For years, we have dealt with all kinds of pestilence around our house. We've had mice, thousand leggers, bats, earwigs and spiders (so many spiders, in fact, that I have developed the habit of holding my arms out as I pass through doorways. Spiderwebs, it turns out, taste terrible). I've always been somewhat embarrassed by this, as I've always thought that it said something about us as a family: We were infected because we were inferior.

This past spring, though, a whole new set of gu ...

oh dear! I cant possibly believe that you and everyone else out there hasnt discovered the best answer to bugs in the house!! I personally beieve bugs are just another one of Gods creatures, and as such have their place in the grand scheme of things... JUST NOT IN MY SPACE!! .. they stay outside, and I will let them live their lives out as peaceable as its possible for a bug to do. In the mean time, the absolute BEST preventative of them coming into MY space (read: house, car, camper, etc) is bought quite reasonably at your local WalMart Store! Its not even that expensive! Give it up on the Exterminator Service. I had them out 3 times to get rid of an ANT and Spider problem. I swear he was just spraying stinky water all over the place, inside and out! It didnt even phase the bugs one bit. Never found even one dead one as a matter of fact!.. at $150.00 for the first visit, and $75.00 each for the other two, i was NOT a happy customer!.. and, well, when it comes to BUGS, i totally lose any sort of sensible nature what so ever. So, for self preservation, the Husband-person went shopping. Came home with this stuff from WalMart. Its called "Spectracide Bug Stop, Indoor Plus Outdoor 9 month Bug Killer". It comes with its own pump spray nozzle. You spray it outside, all the way around the base of the house, about two feet up the side of the house, and about two feet out from the bottom of the base (into the flower bed, etc), around doors and windows and vents. Then inside, around the base boards of all rooms, around the door frame and floor to any basement doors. You wont see another live bug for at least 9 months!! It is people, child, pets (even Birds) safe! For spraying outside, you need to spray on a day that you will have at least 24 hours of dry weather. If you have rain for more than 4 or 5 days in a row, you will want to spray outside again as soon as possible. It works amazingly well, with out nasty odors, and no sticky residue, etc. Seriously, go get yourself some and USE IT!! - Faithful reader

I have found the best way to handle stink bugs is to immobilze them. Shaving cream, hairspray, hair gel, toothpaste or antibacterial soap are excellent defense weapons against the offending bug. Having discovered a wayward stink bug, I will cover the bug in whatever substance is handy, and once enshrined, call my husband and issue a directive to remove the bug. I usually insist on flushing, that's a guarantee the bug is not coming back. The point is, I don't like bugs, or spiders. I don't want to have to deal with them but if I have to I will, and it will not be pretty. Life is much easier for all of us if my husband just handles the bug removal duty, and the quicker he does it, the better for all of us, bug included.
