In honor of the Jewish New Year, which reaches its culmination on Yom Kippur, a solemn day of fasting and repentance that falls this year on Oct. 9, I'd like to take a moment to recognize the open Jew-baiting that is enthusiastically enjoyed by our nation's leading newspaper.
The Oct. 7 edition of the New York Times featured a cheerful article about a video that is circulating on the web called "The Great Schlep." It stars (if that's the right word) a comedienne named Sarah S ...

Your outrage is shared, not by me. I never found the Matt Damon/Sarah Silverman skit offensive. I see them as God's children playing amongst the rubble and garbage and debris of what could have been. Shocking, funny, but not offensive. In poorer, war torn areas, children playing amongst the rubble and ruin of their homes and neighborhoods is not offensive, just as children playing in the rubble and ruin of a destroyed society is not offensive to me. This is the society we live in, it is scary and dangerous and irreverant. Don't damn the children playing in it. This too shall pass.

Why does the Republican party feel it necessary to defend itself against comedians? It's called satire, and you're not special, you're just the newest target of societal contempt. It'll fade, and you may regain your self-esteem and social standing some day, but it requires good decision-making and work. If you want to talk politics, then this is the politics of being in the spotlight. If you want to criticize a political party, it can only be done by pitting one political figure against another. A claim of a newspaper having an opinion? Wow, that's new. Should we thank Rush Limbaugh for all of his witticisms? I believe (here I'm interjecting hyperbole) we should just weigh what's relevant only, otherwise we're just engaging in a type of road rage, yelling at anyone who doesn't drive the way we want them to but essentially don't prevent us from getting where we want to go. Oy vey!
