But You Probably Do Need an Editor: The next time soulless bureaucrats and bosses bowdlerize your works of genius, think of Thomas Bowdler, the physician who did an even worse hatchet job on Shakespeare. Concerned that the bard was warping the morals of youth, he produced an 1818 "Family Shakespeare" in which he promised, "those words and expressions are omitted which cannot with propriety be read aloud in a family."

The Dude Abides: According to the Bartenders Association of America, sales of White Russians quadrupled after it appeared as the Dude's favorite drink in "The Big Lebowski." A White Russian is made from vodka, coffee liqueur and either milk or cream, served in an old-fashioned glass with ice.

A White Russian can also be either somebody from Belarus or an anti-Bolshevik during the Russian Revolution. But you can't drink either one of them.
